Directions: Begin with 1 tsp of tea per 8 oz of hot water steeped for 10 minutes. Adjust to taste. Add sweetener if desired. Try it iced or mixed with fruit juice for a cool, refreshing and nourishing beverage.

Why These Ingredients?

Chamomile (Matricaria recutita or Anthemis nobilis) - slightly sweet and bitter – calming, also good digestive, relaxes muscle spasms. The power of the small.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) a bitter, liver tonic, which clears heat. Dandelion is known to be a detoxifying, diuretic and tonic. It helps support the liver to break down hormones so that they can pass out of the body easily and thus help maintain the balance of hormones in the body. It is beneficial to the digestive system especially in helping to break down fats. Both the leaf and the root can be used. Dandelion is highly nutritious and can be taken daily for long periods. Dandelion root provides vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D and vitamin B complex, as well as zinc, iron and potassium.  Because of its iron content, it is widely used as a remedy for liver ailments, and has a diuretic effect that can help rid the liver of toxins.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) warming and spicy ginger soothes upset stomachs, and eases cramps. Ginger aids digestion, diarrhea, and nausea. It has been used for thousands of years in the East for colds and flus. Many health care professionals use ginger to help treat health problems associated with heavy chronic inflammation, such as arthritis and ulcerative colitis.

Hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa) also known as roselle.  Infusions of the leaves or calyces are regarded as a diuretic which helps move fluids through and out of the body. Hibiscus has been recommend for helping with high blood pressure. It also helps to stabilize blood sugar and is high in Vitamin C.

Lapacho - Pau d'arco (Tabebuia heptaphylla) - cool, bitter – blood, liver, lungs, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, digestive, anti-tumor, tonic, anti-inflammatory. Good for yeast infections, candida, cystitis and inflammation of the cervix. It does have blood thinning properties so should be used with caution if on blood thinners already. Not for use in pregnancy.

Licorice (Glycorhizza glabra) - very sweet, moistening, soothing to all membranes – anti-inflammatory, expectorant, demulcent. Licorice balances cycles, restores energy, and supports the adrenals. It soothes the digestive and respiratory systems. Helps to reduce stress and is beneficial to the liver. Avoid large quantities if you have hypertension or kidney issues, or if you take heart medicine.

Mint (Menthe spp.)  Mint has always been used medicinally to aid digestion and relieve indigestion. The chemical compound menthol, which is contained in peppermint oil, is well known for its benefits to the lungs and respiratory system. Mint is often helpful for nausea and headaches.

Nettle (Urtica dioica) tonic, diuretic, astringent, cleansing, calcium, potassium, iron, nourishing. Nettle, like dandelion, works by increasing the elimination of waste through the urine. In this way it helps cleans and detoxify the body relieving symptoms of water retention.  Nettle works with the body to regulate the fluid levels and it provides calcium and potassium which are often lost with increased urination. It is helpful for the kidneys and the urinary system. It is good to use in cases where there is heavy bleeding, anemia and is beneficial for reducing the symptoms of allergies.

Oats (Avena sativa) sweet, neutral, warm filled with B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, zinc, a nervous system tonic. Oats are good for helping to decrease the damaging effects of stress, to raise energy, reduce depression and help with sleep. Avena Sativa has been shown to naturally decrease water retention and reduce the swelling of feet, ankles, and other parts of the body. Oats are beneficial to the entire digestive system and to the urinary organs as well.

Raspberry leaf (Rubus ideaus) mild, bitter, cool, astringent. Good herb for liver, kidneys, and reproductive organs. Raspberry leaf is a nutritive tonic which strengthens the blood and tones the uterus. It is good for menstrual irregularities especially to help decrease frequent or excessive bleeding. It has often been used as a female tonic to alleviate menstrual discomfort and facilitate childbirth. Raspberry-leaf tea can be taken freely during the last three months of pregnancy and during breast feeding as it encourages the flow of mother's milk. Do not use in the early stages of pregnancy, it can cause uterine contractions. Due to its high mineral composition including vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and iron raspberry leaf also promotes healthy nails, bones, teeth, and skin. It is good for diarrhea, hot flashes, and menstrual cramps.

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) – sweet, neutral, cool, drying, blood purifier good for heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, skin. Red Clover is known as being an anti-spasmodic, expectorant and nutritive tonic which strengthens blood. It has long been used for pre-natal care and to tone the uterus. Red clover is mineral and nutrient rich. It helps with hormone balancing, works as a blood thinner, and supports milk production in new mothers. Red clover is loaded with calcium and magnesium, contains protein, vitamin B complex and vitamin C. Red clover infusions can be enjoyed daily as a vitamin and mineral rich beverage. The National Cancer Institute has found anti-tumor properties in this herb, and many other cultures around the world use red clover to treat cancer. It has been found to contain at least four anti tumor compounds. Herbalists recommend drinking two to four cups of red clover blossom infusions daily.

Red clover will help reduce the frequency of hot flashes and night sweats for the menopausal women. Red clover is known as a fertility enhancing herb most likely because of its nourishing and uterine toning qualities which prepare the body for conception. It is a wonderful herb for regulating the menstrual cycle, although because it thins the blood it is best not used by women prone to heavy bleeding unless mixed with herbs to reduce heavy bleeding. Vitex agnus-castus also known as chasteberry – cool, dry, astringent, tonic. It works on liver, spleen and with pituitary gland to help all of the glands and organs work together in balance by secreting the proper amount of hormones needed. Vitex regulates hormonol cycles, relieves PMS and menopause symptoms. Good for painful menses, and emotional swings before, during and after cycles, reduces bloating and breast swelling, tenderness, irritability and depression. Needs to be taken over time for best effect. In one month effects will be seen but use it for 4 – 8 months to see the maximum benefits.
