Kauai Classes

All classes are held at 5956 Lokelani Rd. in Kapaa from 10 am – 2 pm and are limited to 10 people. Next round of classes will be held in Fall 2010.

In each class you will learn to make several different things and you will go home from each class with 3-4 products that you can use personally, with family and friends, for first aid, body care, feasting and gifts. The information presented in these classes is simple and basic. Often we know some of these things already but are reluctant to try them on our own. Sometimes just seeing it done, or doing it once yourself, gives you the confidence to do it at home and then to explore and try new things on your own.

Each individual class is $45 or register for all 5 for $200. This includes all the materials, handouts, recipes, and references for resources to begin exploring more deeply on your own. Simple refreshments will be served. Bring a notebook and wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting messy. Please bring an apron if you are concerned about your clothes.

The Classes:

Class #1: - Home Spa Day Learn to make bath salts, body scrubs, bath oils and how to do deep cleansing facial steams and nourishing masks. Great for gifts or looking extra good for the holidays.

Class #2: - Kitchen First Aid: part 1 - Learn about medicinal teas, decoctions, juices, fermented drinks and foods, poultices, steams, direct applications of herbs and simple uses of essential oils.

Class #3: Kitchen First Aid: part 2 – We will be making tinctures, medicinal syrups and honeys, herbal vinegars, and pills (capsules and rolled up ones, suppositories).

Herbs we will focus on – Burdock, ginger, olena, lemongrass, chili, mint, thyme, oregano, garlic, calendula, chamomile, passionflower, plantain, honohono, aloe, comfrey, rosemary, neem, dandelion, nettle, elderflower, elderberry, yarrow, lemon balm, licorice, echinacea.

Class #4:  - Infused oils, salves, lip balm, lotions and creams

Class # 5 - The Alchemy of Flavor – how to work with spices and herbs. We will explore the art of spice blending and make several ethnic spice blends. We will also create several flavor elements to have on hand that can make a simple meal into something spectacular.
